Literacy
Our students are explicitly taught content that focuses on listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing, and creating.
In the F-2 classes, InitiaLit is used to explicitly teach phonics and develop students’ reading abilities. Decodable readers are used to support students at the beginning of their reading journey.
In the year 3-6 classes, phonics is taught through the PLD program, and the Literacy Pro program assigns students with a Lexile Level for reading.
All F-6 students are assigned texts that are appropriate based on their reading and comprehension abilities.
The Seven Steps to Writing tools are used to teach all F-6 students how to write engaging and informative pieces of writing.
Identified students requiring additional support may have access to intervention programs, such as EALD support, MiniLit or MacqLit.
